The project goes beyond sponsorship; it is about providing real, tangible change. Under Projek Mentari, Nasi Kukus Rimba is creating opportunities for the OKU community to be actively involved in the food industry. From culinary training sessions to hands-on experience in restaurant operations, participants are equipped with skills that can help them secure sustainable livelihoods and regain confidence in their abilities.
Through this joint venture, several key initiatives have been launched:
-
Skill-based training: OKU participants learn food preparation, customer service, and business management directly from Nasi Kukus Rimba’s team.
-
Employment pathways: Selected trainees are offered job placements within NKR outlets, ensuring financial stability and inclusivity.
-
Community meals: NKR and Projek Mentari work hand-in-hand to provide free or subsidized meals for OKU families, reducing the financial burden many face.

Give them a chance to shine
The program was officially launched with strong support from KKM representatives, highlighting the government’s commitment to inclusive community development. For Nasi Kukus Rimba, it was a proud moment to not just serve food, but to serve hope.“Projek Mentari is not about charity. It’s about empowerment. Every individual deserves a chance to shine, and through this collaboration, we believe the OKU community can rise with dignity and pride.”– Nasi Kukus Rimba founder
The only thing that will possibly be different
The impact is already being felt. Families of participants have shared how the program has given their loved ones renewed confidence, while the wider community has applauded Nasi Kukus Rimba’s efforts in using its platform for a greater purpose.
As Projek Mentari continues, NKR remains committed to expanding its reach — ensuring that the warmth of nasi kukus is not only tasted but also felt in the lives it touches.
Together with KKM, Nasi Kukus Rimba is proving that food can nourish more than the body; it can nourish dreams, opportunities, and futures.
